Columbus YMCA Highlights Black History Month Origins

by Todd Vandersline / cbuslocal.org

The YMCA of Central Ohio in Columbus, OH reports that in 1915, Carter Woodson organized the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History at the Wabash Avenue YMCA in Chicago. The association's purpose was to research and celebrate the achievements of Black Americans. As a result, Woodson started Negro History Week, which served as the precursor to Black History Month. This initiative aims to recognize and honor the contributions of Black individuals throughout history. #BlackHistoryMonth #YForAll
