Carter G. Woodson Honored for Founding Black History Month

by Todd Vandersline / LAXlocal.org

Carter G. Woodson, a dedicated scholar, is recognized for his efforts in celebrating the rich historical contributions of the Black community in the United States. Woodson believed that these contributions were often overlooked and ignored, and he believed that it was important for the country to better understand and appreciate this history. In 1915, Woodson conducted research and documented the achievements of numerous Black Americans at the Wabash Avenue YMCA in Chicago. This research ultimately led to the establishment of Black History Month.
