Treasure Valley Family YMCA celebrates female leaders' contributions

by Todd Vandersline / BoiseLocal.org

In honor of Women's History Month, the Treasure Valley Family YMCA is recognizing female leaders who have made significant contributions to the YMCA movement. Marguerite Cockett, an M.D., traveled to France during WWI as part of the YMCA support effort, where she helped build and manage canteens for soldiers. Violet King Henry, who moved to the U.S. in 1963, held executive roles in the YMCA in Newark, New Jersey, and Chicago, Illinois, and played a key role in helping African Americans find employment. Suzanne McCormick made history as the first woman to lead the YMCA of the USA when she became president and CEO in 2021.
