YMCA Celebrates Female Leaders During Women's History Month

In honor of Women's History Month, the YMCA is recognizing female leaders who have made significant contributions to the organization. Marguerite Cockett, an M.D., assisted the YMCA support effort during WWI by building and managing canteens for soldiers in France. Violet King Henry, who moved to the U.S. in 1963, held executive positions at the YMCA in Newark, New Jersey, and Chicago, Illinois, where she helped African Americans find employment opportunities. Suzanne McCormick made history by becoming the first woman to lead YMCA of the USA when she was appointed as president and CEO in 2021.
