The park has large downed trees that create unsafe conditions throughout the area, particularly in the playground, which has been deemed especially unsafe. Residents are advised to avoid Gillespie Park until it has been cleared and made safe.

In the meantime, families looking for a safe play space can visit the Circus Playground at Payne Park, located at 2010 Adams Lane, Sarasota, which is currently open for use.
