**SPARTAN SPOTLIGHT: One Historic Leap at a Time**

By Michelle Smith McDonald

**San Jose, CA** - In celebration of International Day of the Girl, San José State University highlights Emilia Sjöstrand, a notable figure in the university's community. Sjöstrand, a sophomore majoring in Sociology, is recognized as a track and field All-American and a dedicated student-athlete.

In the spring issue of Washington Square: The Magazine, Sjöstrand discusses her experiences and the challenges she has faced in sports. Her efforts not only motivate her fellow athletes but also serve as an encouragement for young girls to chase their dreams with confidence.

For more about Emilia Sjöstrand's journey and achievements, visit [Washington Square Magazine](https://sjsu.foleon.com/washington-square-magazine/fall-2023/one-historic-leap-at-a-time).

This recognition comes as part of a larger initiative to honor young leaders who are making significant contributions to their communities and inspiring future generations.
